Faye's Recommended Resources List

Updated: Mar 10, 2020

My list of the most influential reads and vids for your journey of Self-Awareness and Self-Development.

I often get asked for recommendations to enhance the self-learning as part of our coaching process. Here are some staple books that have impacted me along my personal journey and those of my clients. I invite you to scan the list to see which one(s) jump out at you, and start there!

* = must read!

  • *The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People - Stephen R. Covey - A must read for anyone in life and work.

  • Happy - Derren Brown - History and insight into what happiness is and how we get more of it.

  • Don't Sweat the Small Stuff - Richard Carlson - A pick-up-and-put-down read of all the normal things we humans stress about that we really needn't.

  • Man's Search for Meaning - Dr Viktor Frankl - An account of the inner experience of a man in a Nazi Concentration Camp. Heavy, life-affirming, short, worthy read.

  • Oh, the Places You'll Go! - Dr Seuss - One for the Inner Child.

  • *Dare to Lead / Daring Greatly / The Gifts of Imperfection / Braving the Wilderness - Brené Brown - Anything by Brené teaches us how to live wholeheartedly (with courage, authenticity and vulnerability) None of us are perfect. Wouldn't it be a relief if we all stopped trying and started being who we actually are instead?

  • *Your Essential Self - Richard Harvey - A must-read for anyone on their own journey of inner-discovery. This explores the stages of life and the blockers we create to the real us and how to unleash that.

  • The Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle - An important message about living in the present moment. The future is imagined (mind) and the past is remembered (mind) so how do we learn to be FULLY where we are?

  • The 5 Love Languages - Gary Chapman - A relationship staple for you and your partner (old or new), this explains what we thrive on in relationships, be that Quality Time, Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation, Gifts or Acts of Service. Also an online quiz: https://www.5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/

  • Recovery (12 Steps) - Russell Brand - A humorous and insightful look at all the things we get addicted to (be that shopping, sex, eating, alcohol, holidays, relationships..) we are all on the scale of addiction one way or another and this explores how NOT to be.

  • *Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway - Susan Jeffers - A must-read for anyone feeling stuck in their comfort zone and unable to do something they really want to do. Contact me for a summary.

  • F**k it - John C. Parkin - Light-hearted look at all the things we get hung up about. What if we stopped caring so much?

  • The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Children Will Be Glad That You Did) - Phillippa Perry - A very interesting look at how we be better parents. A strong theme of reparation and its importance.

  • The School of Life: An Emotional Education - Alain de Botton - A book that resonates on every page about Life, Relationships, Work and Culture. Takes a while to read but well worth it and one I plan to read every couple of years.
